"It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves - in finding themselves." Andre Gide
Rock Climbing Est. 2010
Rock climbing is an exciting adventure that the students would otherwise lack access to. It is a great way to keep in shape and helps the mind to grow and expand as students confront their fears. Furthermore, since students depend on each other for basic safety and encouragement it also acts as a great team building exercise.
Camping Est. 2013
In addition, camping is a great way to explore nature and spend time "roughing it". Even students from rural Ecuador sometimes need a break from cell phones, Facebook and Twitter, and the surrounding area of Cosanga is a great place to make this happen (despite the almost constant rain!)
Bird watching Est. 2016
While this may not seem like the most adventurous hobby, it provides our students with another outlet to explore and understand their country. The Cosanga Birdwatchers Club was established in 2016 by a group of local bird aficionados, who have a shared goal of documenting all of the bird species who live and migrate to the local area. As lovers of the environment, we fully support their efforts and will therefore be helping anywhere we can!
Lifetime experience trips Est. 2011
Finally, students who attend our classes regularly are rewarded with a trip within the country of Ecuador. Many of these students lack the resources to travel and experience the beauty of their own country. Sustainable Roots opens the door to those opportunities, therefore allowing students to experience things they never dreamed possible.
